Hurricane season ahead

Houston Hurricane Season How To’s At Your Home or Business

Hurricane season in Texas begins June 1 and runs through November 30th.  Are you ready for it?

You can file an insurance claim if your roof becomes damaged by a hurricane.  Be sure to read your policy carefully as insurance companies differ on what they will do if you have roof damage.

Some policies carry replacement cost coverage, meaning your insurance will cover up to the full cost of your roof to be replaced at current prices.

Other policies are actual cash value coverage, meaning your insurance company will pay less than the current price of your roof to replace or repair it if the roof is old or already showing wear and tear from age.  Either way, you will most likely need to pay some amount as a deductible before insurance pays on their portion of the roof claim.

So before hurricane season hits on June 1st this year, be sure to carefully review your insurance policy, and specifically be sure you know what king of coverage you have on your roof and what your deductible will be.  Next, inspect your roof before June 1st to be sure your roof is in fighting shape before strong winds or storm damage come your way.  Things to look for or do before June 1st include trimming any tree limbs hanging over your roof; removing and replacing any missing or damaged shingles; and cleaning out gutters to be sure water flows freely.
